How to conceal facial flaws by Ishika Taneja

Actually stumbled on this beautiful and educating piece while surfing the internet earlier today ...read on...

Many women complain of double chin or thick nose or broad forehead. With a little help from make-up, now you can cover up these unwanted features artistically.

Ishika Taneja, make-up expert and executive director of Alps Cosmetic Clinic, doles out tips on how to highlight your best feature or downplay the unattractive one:
* To downplay your double chin, apply a darker colour foundation underneath your jawline blending into the neck. The illusion of depth will definitely give your face a lot more definition making it appear chiseled. Direct attention towards your eyes and cheeks and watch your double chin disappear! Your lips will be an important asset in this case, play them up. A bold colour and shiny lip gloss can work wonders. And since, we are talking about diverting attention, cleavage! Show off your neckline and chest in a plunging top and let your collarbones and throat do the rest!
* To narrow your forehead, use one shade darker foundation to create a shadow effect around the temples along the hairline. Use dramatic eye makeup to draw focus towards your eyes. Arched eyebrows and proper face contouring will make your forehead seem smaller than it is. Stay away from back-combed hairstyles, these will not only draw attention towards your forehead but also cause the hairline to recede faster. Bangs are your new best friend. Soft waves combined with messy bangs and voila! You can experiment with headbands, hats and scarves to glam up your look. Light tendrils spilling out of your hat or scarf will soften your face and onlookers won’t even notice your forehead anymore. (Read: Make-up 101: How to choose the right blush for your cheeks)
* You can slim down the nose by shading the sides a little darker while highlighting the bridge of the nose. This way your nose will look sharper and thinner. Contouring may feel like quantum physics but over time and lots of practice, you’ll get the hang of it. Avoid short hair as this will simply draw attention to your nose. Go for a layered haircut and side swept bangs. Add a pop of colour to your lips but don’t overdo it. Last but not the least, shine. Invest in a high quality cleansing product that will rid your face of shine. Touch your face up regularly throughout the day to prevent the oil from getting through. It might seem like a lot to do but it’s a good bargain against rhinoplasty any day. (Read: Simple tips to manage oily skin)
* To achieve high cheekbones, suck in your cheekbones to make an ‘O’. Then, shade the deep area with a brown blush. Apply lighter blush starting from the centre of the cheeks to your hairline. But blend well so that others can’t see the start and end points of the blush application. Highlight only the apples of your cheekbones with a powder blush. Use bronzers under your cheekbones and a light blushes over to create the illusion of a shadow. Finish it off with a liquid highlighter to blend in near your eyes.
